Our marvelous Caitlin Roa is a proud empath, Caitlin's passion in life is to help people through understanding what they need. She is Seed Waikato's systems guru, our beloved listener, and she even manages to be a genius at accounting and make-up! Caitlin has changed our lives, so we sat down with her to learn from her life so far.

Who inspires you?

The people that inspire me the most are my Mum, Dad, Brother and sister. They are the coolest people in the world and I feel so lucky to have them in my life. Oh and Gemma Major of course.

What's the best thing you bring to Seed Waikato?

My ability to be empathetic, one of my biggest passions in life is to help people through understanding what they need. I have been through my fair share of mental health issues (mainly anxiety and depression) and I feel that I am able to share my experiences and how I deal with them a lot more now that I am involved with Seed Waikato.

What do you spend your time on?

By day I work as an accountant at Deloitte in Hamilton East, by night/any other moment I get I study towards my Chartered Accountancy qualification, work on my Seed Waikato role and work on my side hustle Caits Creates, doing people’s make-up.

What's the most courageous thing you've ever done?

I moved to the UK straight out of high school for a gap year. I was by myself and didn’t know anyone where I was going which was pretty scary, but I learnt so much about myself and other people and those lessons have really come in handy over the years.

What's the coolest thing you are working on right now?

Self-love! It's a difficult thing to master, but I think it is really important to learn because your relationship with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have in your life.

What colour crayon would you be?

Yellow, because it’s a colour I associate with positivity (and Seed Waikato!)

What inspired you to join Seed Waikato?

I needed an outlet for my creativity and passion for helping out in the community (Reminder: I am an accountant and creativity is not considered a good thing in this industry haha). I didn’t find that there were a lot of volunteering opportunities around the Waikato that would fit in with my fairly busy schedule or that were going to provide constant work every week, but then I came across Seed Waikato and I’m very happy I did.

What does Seed Waikato mean to you?

To be able to contribute to an organisation whose goal is to help young people in the Waikato region brings a lot of satisfaction and joy into my life. Seed Waikato provides this quality platform for people to be able to learn and grow, it’s like being adopted into this little family who value your skills and always encourage you to be the best version of yourself and that is a really valuable thing to be a part of.
